PLAY Walk

PLAY Walk
PLAY Walk is an interactive urban trail located in the heart of the City of Rochester. The trail provides a playful immersive experience along the streetscape connecting The Strong Museum of Play and the Central Library of Rochester.
The design was developed through a series of youth workshops. Artist Shawn Dunwoody and Steele Landscape Architecture facilitated the workshops teaching local teens about urban design and public art and gave them the tools to design and present their ideas to the public. During the course of the workshops the youth were tasked with creating a vision and character plan for the urban trail.
The streetscape improvements include ‘breadcrumb’ trail markers that guide users to elements of play, musical instruments, and murals which spread positive and empowering messaging. The installations enliven the streetscape and enhance the experience of place.
