Fairport Erie Canal South Bank

Fairport Erie Canal South Bank

Steele Landscape Architecture designed native planting enhancements along the Erie Canal in Fairport, New York, revitalizing the Canalside landscape to better serve boaters, tourists, and the local community.

The project focused on transforming an overgrown area into a vibrant, ecologically rich environment by removing invasive species, rehabilitating the soil and introducing native species chosen for their ability to thrive in the local climate, support pollinators, and contribute to the beautification of the tourism-based community. The design enhances the beauty and functionality of the canal side, offering visitors an inviting, educational experience while supporting sustainable practices. The soil were as remediated through the summer of 2024, with construction beginning in fall of 2024.
