Vacuum Oil Trail

Vacuum Oil Trail
The Vacuum Oil Trail, developed as part of the Exchange Street Park improvement project marks the first phase of implementing the 2015 PLEX Community Park Master Plan, prioritizing ADA accessibility and enhanced connectivity for the neighborhood. This initiative creates a safe and welcoming pedestrian pathway linking South Plymouth Avenue and Exchange Boulevard while setting the stage for future improvements aligned with the community’s vision.
Steele Landscape Architecture was hired by Colliers Engineering and Design and the City of Rochester to develop trail alignment concepts based on detailed site investigations, grading, drainage, ADA accessibility analysis, and community engagement. The trail plans ensure ADA compliance, preserve existing trees where feasible, and integrate green infrastructure by managing stormwater runoff from nearby rooftops.
Native vegetation will replace scrub growth, creating a cleaner, more natural environment while maintaining flat areas for future park programming. Strategically placed trees and shrubs will provide definition and screening. The project also supports future trail connections, including a direct link to the Genesee Riverway Trail, enhancing access to the waterfront.
