Ellison Park Resiliency Concept Plan

Ellison Park Resiliency Concept Plan

Steele Landscape Architecture, in collaboration with Bergmann Associates, developed a conceptual resiliency plan for Ellison Park in the Town of Penfield as part of the Monroe County Coastal Lakeshore Economy and Resiliency Plan. The project focuses on mitigating flooding along Irondequoit Creek and enhancing regional resilience through an ecological approach to park design.

To address the park’s persistent wet conditions and unstable open lawn areas, the concept incorporates green infrastructure and designed wetlands to improve drainage and ecological function. Boardwalks and trails provide visitors with access to natural processes, creating educational and recreational opportunities.

The design introduces and enhances soil moisture gradients, fostering diverse plant and wildlife habitats while improving the park’s overall biodiversity. This innovative plan not only addresses existing flooding challenges but also transforms Ellison Park into a sustainable and resilient public space that balances ecological health with community recreation.
