Elmira Downtown Redevelopment Initiative

The NYS-DOS Downtown Revitalization Initiative program invests $10 million in funding to provide new urban identity and leverage private investment in targeted downtown cores of communities throughout New York. Relying on significant public outreach, these community planning processes identified organizations and infrastructure projects that would lead to new cultural and economic opportunities.

Zakery Steele served as Senior Landscape Architect developing concept designs for a range of projects in four different communities (Albany, Elmira, Oswego, and Oneonta). The project designs and feasibility analysis varied widely, including pedestrian promenades and riverfront boardwalks (Elmira) and multi-modal focused streetscape enhancements and cost estimating (Albany) to civic plazas, pedestrian bridges, and ice-skating rinks (Oswego, Oneonta).
