ROC City Skatepark
The ROC City Skate Park, Rochester’s first wheel-friendly progression sports facility, began as a vision from a passionate skateboard community and a series of public workshops. Completed in 2020, this 14,000+ SF skatepark is located beneath the iconic Frederick Douglass-Susan B. Anthony Memorial Bridge.
Designed to overcome significant site and environmental constraints, the park was created by a multi-disciplinary team of skatepark designers, landscape architects, engineers, and construction experts. It serves as a model for transforming underutilized urban spaces into active areas. Part of the City’s ROC the Riverway program, the skatepark features bowls, ramps, rails, and obstacles for skateboarders, BMX bikers, scooters, and wheelchair users. Public workshops, led by Newline Skateparks, informed the design, ensuring the skatepark met the needs of the community. Designed by Stantec Consulting Services and Newline Skateparks, Zakery Steele served as Project Manager.
