Highland Park Children’s Pavilion

Highland Park Children’s Pavilion

Renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted envisioned an open-air circular pavilion in his design for Highland Park. Dedicated in 1890 and situated at the highest point of the park, the Children’s Pavilion offered panoramic views of the surrounding City and the park’s winding hillside pathways and exceptional tree and shrub collections. A complex and unique wood structure, the pavilion was demolished in 1963 due to its unsafe and deteriorated condition.

Monroe County and the Highland Park Conservancy committed to rebuilding the pavilion and hired Bero Architecture to study the feasibility and advance the detailed rehabilitation. Steele Landscape Architecture was hired in 2022 to serve as the Landscape Architect on the team, providing rehabilitation site design, graphic visualization, and consulting on various design components including grading, drainage, paving, and site amenities.
