Genesee Gateway Park

The Genesee Gateway Park project involved the master planning and phased rehabilitation of an 8-acre riverfront park near downtown Rochester, New York. Phase 1, initiated in 2010, focused on improving pedestrian and bicycle access through a residential redevelopment site along the Genesee River, enhancing public access to the park. The phase also included public art, seating areas, and a river overlook offering scenic views of the Rochester skyline.

In 2017, Phase 2 commenced with the development of a long-term master plan that included water-access facilities, a great-lawn area, a sports zone, a natural adventure playground, and improvements to the shoreline. The plan proposed restoring the river’s edge to a more natural state, improving river ecology and recreational opportunities. Phase 2 construction began in 2022, featuring a new paddle-craft launch, basketball courts, trails, and a custom-designed playground reflecting the local culture. Zakery served as Project Manager for both phases.
