Kendal at Ithaca

Steele Landscape Architecture developed enhancement plans for an enclosed courtyard and staff picnic area at Kendal at Ithaca, a senior care facility near Ithaca, New York. The project focused on creating an ADA-accessible outdoor environment that promotes residents’ well-being and provides opportunities for gardening, connecting with nature, and relaxation.

The design features include accessible garden beds, a calming water feature, shaded seating areas, and thoughtfully selected plantings to enhance sensory experiences. The courtyard serves as a tranquil, therapeutic space for residents, while the adjacent staff picnic area offers a comfortable outdoor retreat. The design fosters connection, accessibility, and engagement for all users.
